IGN Grassroots Spotlight

Amelia Earhart has nothing on Kathy Bennett. A member of the Grassroots Network since 2002, Kathy works as the Administrative Manager for the American Surety Company. In this capacity among other things, she oversees the production of company advertising items, handles payroll, employee benefits, and makes sure all the bills are paid. Although Kathy stays very busy at work, she still finds time to travel the United States . . .. and the world for that matter.

Kathy and her husband Steve own what they affectionately call their Minnie Winnie, a 29 foot motor home. During the past several years, the Minnie has retraced the steps of Lewis and Clark, making the 6,200-mile trip from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Astoria, Washington. A frequent passenger in the Minnie on road trips is Kathy’s fourteen-year-old black lab, Lucy. If you have been out west recently, you might have seen the Minnie traveling up California State Highway 1 or I-70 through Colorado and Utah. Of course, Kathy doesn’t confine her trips to the Continental 48. With adventures planned to South America and Europe, Kathy travels to places the Minnie can’t quite make.

When in Indianapolis, you might look for the Minnie at the Olive Garden or Bravo, which are Kathy’s favorite restaurants. Kathy also enjoys making time for needlework and taking care of repairs and improvements around the house.

As a member of the Grassroots Network, Kathy believes it is important for insurance industry professionals to venture out and make their voices heard. “The Insurance Institute of Indiana’s Grassroots Network builds a bridge between lawmakers and their constituents employed in the insurance industry,” said Kathy. “It enables the individual’s voice to join together with others sharing a common goal for the good of the insurance industry in Indiana.”
